The Noticer
I am a big Andy Andrews fan, so when I was offered the opportunity to review his new book The Noticer, I jumped at the chance. Thanks to Thomas Nelson for this opportunity. “Sometimes all a person needs is a little perspective” (from the front cover)
This book did not disappoint. Like all of Andy Andrews other books there are many, too many, great nuggets of wisdom to quote them all here. You just have to go buy the book for yourself. And while you are at it, buy a copy for your mom for Mothers day, any graduates you know, your dad for Fathers day, or even as a wedding present. Everyone can use a different perspective in their life.
We have a tendency to get so focused on the one way we see something that we lack any other vision or perspective. The character Jones in this book brings that fresh outlook to all the people he meets. Whether it’s showing the difference of dining on surf and turf with an ocean view (Vienna sausages and sardines) with the guy living under the pier; or talking with the old woman on the dock, who all she wants to do is make a tiny difference and he tells her that is not possible; he shows them and us it’s all a matter of your perspective.
Jones, just Jones, not Mister Jones or any other name, drifts in and out of peoples lives, touching them and you the reader each in their own unique way.
I have read through the book once and am starting on my second read through with notebook and pen in hand to see what perspective do I need to change in my life. What do I need to notice more?
It’s an easy read, not long at all. And you can read through it possibly too quickly. But I encourage you to take your time and digest what you are reading. There is a readers guide in the back that will take you through chapter by chapter. Or if you do read through it quickly, take the time to go back and read it again and see how your perspective changes.
I end this review with one of many great quotes from the book – “No matter your age, physical condition, financial situation, color, gender, emotional state, or belief… everything you do, every move you make, matters to all of us – and forever.” (page 91, The Noticer)

Hey Michelle – in reference to the comment you left on Iamdonewith.com about the “super secret project” that I’m working on, can you email me a brief social justice story where God used a brush with the poor to teach you something?
