Observations from the road

Some random observations after having spent 4 days driving.

If you are going to advertise or sell something using a large sign/billboard, I would recommend two things. One, have a phone number displayed. And two, with said number, display your area code.

If there are 4 police cars behind you and you are in the left lane, get out of the left lane. Don’t expect them (and everyone else) to illegally pass on the right.

I really should have noted the names of some of the towns and streets we saw to find out what people were thinking when they came up with these names.

In New Jersey (at least on Route 1) you can’t make left turns. I’m sure it helps with the traffic flow, but when you don’t know where you are going and the turn signs are obstructed by growth, it makes for challenging driving. I wonder if the same person that designed the routing for UPS (they only make right turns) also came up with this idea?

Satellite radio & GPS technology make travelling a lot easier.

A comment to the hotel industry. You offer rooms with king size beds and all sorts of amenities. Could you not also have king size pillows? It’s very annoying and disruptive to my sleep when my head falls down between the pillows.

If you have an iPhone the locator apps for Whole Foods & Starbucks definitely come in handy. Hilton has a nice app too. Other hotels should take a hint from that.

And last, but not least, there’s no place like home and your own pillow.
